Also, in the mockup, I roughed in Ajax-loading this directly from the page when the user clicks the group options in the overlay. This would need further tweaks to get the color correctly set to the 'dark' vs. 'light' theme. If IE11 support isn't required, I'd use custom properties/variables. I left that as-is for now as there may be a technique you prefer in conjunction with Drupal or would prefer not to tie both (the page and the overlay) together so tightly.
